Replacing a bathtub or curtain with a glass shower enclosure is one of the simplest changes that transforms a bathroom. But before ordering there are key questions: which type fits your bathroom? What thickness is right? Should you choose clear or frosted glass?
1. Walk-in (fixed) shower
A single fixed glass panel with no door, suited to medium and large bathrooms. It looks very clean and is easy to wash, but it needs a well-designed floor slope so water stays in.
2. Hinged shower
A door that opens on hinges like a normal door. It gives a luxurious look and wide access, but needs space in front to swing open, so it suits bathrooms with enough room.
3. Sliding shower
A door that slides on a top track, so it needs no opening space. It is the best solution for small bathrooms and tight spaces, and can have a slim frame or a semi-frameless system.
What glass thickness is right?
Most shower enclosures are made from 8 mm tempered glass, while frameless enclosures and large panels are better in 10 mm for extra stability. What matters is that the glass is always tempered, because it is safety glass.
Clear, frosted or fluted?
- Clear: makes the bathroom look bigger and shows off the tiles
- Frosted: full privacy with soft light
- Fluted: partial privacy and a modern look
- A frosted band or print: a middle ground between privacy and transparency
Measuring and installation tips
- Do not order measurements before the tiles and marble are finished
- Walls are rarely straight, so we measure on site
- Decide the door opening direction and the position of the mixer and shelf
- Choose moisture-resistant fittings
How to look after shower glass
Wipe the glass with a squeegee after every shower to reduce water spots, use a gentle non-abrasive cleaner once a week, and avoid rough metal tools on the glass and fittings.
